Registration Process Register

All Qualified Breath Test Technicians (QT) must renew their certification for the operation of the Intox EC/IR II on an annual basis. To do this, QTs must successfully complete the Intox EC/IR II Proficiency Examination. This exam is offered online via the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) as well as service-specific e-Learning Portals hosted on the CPKN Learning Management System.

Please note there is a mandatory 15-minute video preceding the exam. The exam itself is comprised of 40 questions and requires a minimum passing grade of 80%.

How to Register

Information for QT Coordinators/Breath Test Supervisors

QTs must be registered to this exam by their service’s QT Coordinator, Breath Test Supervisor, or training coordinator.

To register a service’s QTs for the Intox EC/IR II Proficiency Examination, the QT Coordinator/BT Supervisor/Training Coordinator must complete this registration form.

Once registered, you will be provided with an e-learning account (CPKN provides a username and password via email). QTs will also receive an annual automated notice that their certification expiration date is approaching. Instructions for logging into the exam will be provided at that time.

Exam Fee and Invoicing

There is no direct fee to learners for this exam. CPKN will invoice police services for exam registrations on a quarterly basis. The exam fee is $15/user.

Results Reporting and Printing a Certificate

CPKN’s Support Desk will report all exam results to identified Breath Test Supervisors within each police service on a monthly basis.

However, once the exam has been successfully completed, candidates may also print a Certificate of Completion by following these steps:

  1. Login to your e-learning account and click on the ‘Certificate’ tab.
  2. Under the ‘Completed Certificates’ section, click on the exam title.
  3. Click ‘Show Certificate’.
  4. Print the certificate.
