Course Overview
Through the 30 minute Unfounded Sexual Offences eLearning module, participants will be prompted to review current media articles regarding “unfounded” sexual offences, including the Globe and Mail article, “Unfounded”. Based on the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), participants will be introduced to the national standard for sexual offence classifications and circumstances in which they apply. Participant evaluation will consist of knowledge-check questions related to applying proper coding in sexual assault investigations.
A Calgary Police Service (CPS) case study will include the results of the internal review of unfounded sexual offence cases and introduce various methods that the CPS is applying to avoid misclassifications of “unfounded” cases.
