Guided by feedback, research, and collaboration, we’re constantly refining and evolving our offerings to better support the policing and public safety community. 

From enhancing course experiences to modernizing tools and frameworks, our goal is simple: make learning smarter, easier, and more effective for everyone in the Network.  

Initiatives that Move the Network Forward

We lead initiatives designed to strengthen the Network and help police and public safety professionals respond to emerging trends, share knowledge, and access training that meets real-world needs. 

User Experience (UX)

We’re focused on how people interact with us every day. 

Recent updates to our Learning Management System improved the course registration process and navigation for both learners and administrators. 

And we’re not stopping there.

More enhancements are underway to make the platform even more intuiative and efficient. 

      Competency-Based Management Framework

      Through partnerships within the Network, we’ve modernized the Competency-Based Management Framework (CBMF).

      We collaborated with police services across Canada to identify gaps, test updates, and ensure the framework reflects today’s realities of policing.

      The end result is a searchable, adaptable tool that services can use to build their own frameworks. We’re now entering phase two, digitizing the CBMF to improve accessibility and create a smoother, more intuitive user experience for everyone.

        Through ongoing dialogue with services, training units, and subject matter experts, we identify new topics, refresh existing content, and ensure the catalogue stays relevant and impactful.

          What type of projects does the Department of Innovation take on?

          Our team leads a wide range of initiatives to help drive CPKN forward.

          This includes exploring technological improvements (e.g., XR), courseware improvements (e.g., mobile friendly courses), the LMS (e.g., UX improvements), and beyond. 

            How does a project come to fruition?

            New ideas are researched and vetted before being formally proposed. Once approved we work collaboratively with all parts of CPKN and the Network to enact new ideas, improvements, and products.
