Course Overview
Developed in collaboration with Alberta law enforcement and criminal justice stakeholders, the Policing Sextortion with a Trauma-Informed Lens course is designed to address gaps in existing training. With an introductory focus on sextortion-related education, awareness, and foundational investigative strategies, it equips Alberta law enforcement with the tools necessary to investigate sextortion cases.
This course develops an understanding of sextortion as a complex, multifaceted crime that can affect individuals of all ages, genders, and sexual orientations, with wide-ranging personal and social impacts. It emphasizes the use of responsive, trauma-informed investigative approaches that prioritize the specific needs and experiences of victims. Learners will also explore how to facilitate access to appropriate services and resources by effectively guiding sextortion victims and their families to available supports.
