Course Overview

All Qualified Breath Test Technicians (QT) in Alberta must renew their certification for the operation of the Intox EC/IR II on an annual basis.

To do this, QTs must:

  • Successfully complete the Alberta Intox EC/IR II Proficiency Examination. This exam is offered online via the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) as well as service-specific e-Learning Portals hosted on the CPKN Learning Management System.
  • Scan and submit all your field test paperwork generated since your last proficiency test, including the Intox EC/IR II Operational Checklist (both sides), Subject Test Report, and Certificate of a Qualified Technician (if applicable). Documentation must be emailed to the field coordinator at your service or base. See the list of field coordinators below to find your applicable field coordinator and their email address.
  • If a field test was not conducted in the last year, you can submit a blank/buddy test with two zero results and submit the same paperwork as if this was an actual field test.
