Announcing the CPKN-CSKA strategic alliance
The Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) is proud to announce its strategic alliance with the Community Safety Knowledge Alliance (CSKA). Building on nine years of partnership between the two organizations, this enhanced alliance aims to boost the integration of applied research and knowledge development to drive excellence in policing professional development. “These are two well established organizations with long-standing commitments to supporting the police community,” said Paul Pedersen, Executive Director, Ontario Association Chiefs of Police, and Board Chair, CPKN. “The complementary strengths of each organization position us well to collaborate on future initiatives.” For 20 years, CPKN’s services, products, and training have been informed by police services and the communities they serve across Canada. This alliance serves as an additional assurance to police services that the professional development offerings that CPKN offers are evidence informed. 20 years of CPKN: The People – Del Manak
2024 marks 20 years of the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN). Over the past two decades, many people have helped the Network evolve into what it is today. Del Manak, Chief Constable, Victoria Police Department (VicPD), was first introduced to CPKN a few years after its launch. At the time he was the officer-in-charge of the Victoria Police Department’s Human Resources Division, and he was scheduled to meet Sandy Sweet and John Arnold, then President, CPKN. The two were travelling across the country to meet with police services and professionals who could benefit from CPKN’s offerings. “We were a medium-sized police agency with a limited training and professional development budget, and we were looking for new, innovative, and affordable opportunities to invest in our people,” Manak said. “What CPKN was able to offer was out of the box thinking and nothing short of revolutionary at the time. It was a no brainer for VicPD to form a partnership with CPKN.” Since then, the VicPD has shown their support in numerous ways. Q&A with the President: Future Directions of CPKN
The Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and this monumental year is bringing change and growth for the organization. We sat down with Sandy Sweet, President, CPKN, to discuss the upcoming change in leadership. What inspired the search for a new President? I have been aware for some time that CPKN would need to transition to its next president. In June 2022, a new leadership model was approved by the Board creating a Vice President of Operations position and a part-time President position. The new Vice President of Operations – Krystine Richards – started her role in January 2023 and in May 2023 I was supposed to start working part-time. In reality, that was never possible. CPKN has seen so much growth and has such unbelievable potential that the idea of a part-time President became a non-starter. After reflection, I felt that I could have continued as a full-time President, but I feel this is a great time for adding a new leadership vision to the mix. This will protect the incredible foundation that we have collectively built and find new complementary ways to provide value to the Canadian police community. […]
