The Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) is pleased to announce Major Willem R. Dallaire as our keynote speaker for this year’s annual Stanhope Conference.
With over 30 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, Major Dallaire brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to officer wellness and mental health. As a passionate advocate, he champions the well-being of first responders, military personnel, and the families and support networks who support them.
“The deep pain we can feel in our minds is invisible but very real,” explains Major Dallaire. “It is a suffering often misunderstood and stigmatized by those around us. The prejudices surrounding mental health are numerous and continue to wreak havoc in our society.”
As the son of General Romeo Dallaire, Major Dallaire was instilled with a profound sense of duty and provides a compelling perspective on leadership, service, and sacrifice. Due to this unique lived experience, he offers a strong and compassionate voice into topics such as post-traumatic stress disorder, workplace mental health, collateral damage, and the principles of humanism and leadership.
“We are honoured to welcome Major Dallaire to this year’s conference,” says Sonia Poulin, President, CPKN. “His advocacy and experience strongly align with our focus on officer wellness, leadership, and collaboration. His message will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on those in the room.”
Major Dallaire joins a strong lineup of speakers covering key topics such as collaboration and partnerships, innovation and artificial intelligence in police professional development, leadership at all levels, and officer wellness, including mental health and career development. Together, this program promises an engaging and insightful experience that will inspire innovative ideas and meaningful change in police professional development across Canada.
