Course Overview
Resilience is the ability to adapt and remain healthy in the face of adversity, and it can be strengthened or weakened over time based on our experiences. The Resilience Scale: A Tool for Change introduces the Resilience Scale metaphor, developed by the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative, to help learners understand how resilience is shaped by the interaction of adversities, positive supports, and acquired skills and abilities.
Through this course, learners are introduced to key concepts from the Brain Story and explore how the Resilience Scale can be used as a practical tool to assess, explain, and monitor resilience over time. The course focuses on helping learners visualize how experiences influence lifelong physical and mental health outcomes.
This course is designed for a broad audience and is intended to support reflection, discussion, and application in professional and community contexts. Learners will gain a shared language and framework for thinking about resilience and how it can be strengthened at the individual, family, and system level.
When you have completed this course you will be able to:
- Explain the factors that strengthen and weaken resilience
- Use the tool to visualize a person’s current level of resilience
