Course Overview
This course is:
- Focused on critical incidents stemming from criminal activity
- A basis to encourage and facilitate inter-agency dialogue and cooperation
- An overview of the provincial and federal legislation pertaining to enacting the different police services of jurisdiction
- A discussion on the multijurisdictional policing services’ environment
- An introduction to the different police services’ investigative mandate potentially stemming from a critical incident
- A presentation of how police services can collaborate efficiently and effectively by following the fundamental concept of “lead and support”
- An introduction to the different legal bases for military support to police services
When you have completed this course you will be able to:
- Define what is meant by a “critical incident” for the purpose of this course
- Describe what is meant by “police services of jurisdiction”
- Define the command and control concepts for a multijurisdictional police response to a critical incident
- Identify the lead police service in a multijurisdictional police response to a critical incident
- Describe the types of police investigation that might occur following a critical incident
- Identify which police service is responsible for each type of investigation
- Describe how the Canadian Armed Forces can provide military assistance to police services
