Course Overview
This course will provide investigators with an overview of the various types of legislation in place related to child abduction, as well as the information and knowledge they need to determine when criminal charges may be appropriate and what approvals are required prior to laying charges.
When you have completed this course you will be able to:
- Identify some of the legislation that exists at the federal, provincial, and international levels
- Describe the various terms used in child abduction investigations
- Identify the criminal offences related to parental child abduction
- Recognize the elements of the criminal offences related to parental child abduction
- Determine what is required in order to lay a Criminal Code charge
- Define stranger child abduction
- Identify the criminal offences related to stranger child abduction
- Describe the purpose and function of The Hague Convention
- Identify the roles of the various federal government departments and agencies regarding child abduction
