Course Overview
This new eLearning module has been developed by a sub-committee of the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Sexual Violence Police Advisory Committee (SVPAC) to educate police on the impacts of trauma and inform their interaction and response to victims of sexual violence.
After completing the learning module, you will be able to:
- List at least three ways in which misconceptions about sexual assault interfere with sexual assault investigations
- Identify at least three realities about sexual assault that are commonly misunderstood
- Explain how specialized knowledge of trauma and memory as it relates to sexual assault only improves police interactions, investigations, and justice outcomes
- Identify at least three components of valid consent
- Identify at least three conditions in which there is no consent
