CPKN’s latest Canadian Credible Leadership Cohort will provide underrepresented police officers with access to leadership development, mental wellness resources, and practical tools for career advancement.

The Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) has been selected as a 2026 Motorola Solutions Foundation grant recipient to host a leadership and mental wellness training program for underrepresented police members in Canada.
The $20,000 USD grant will provide access to the program at no cost for up to 30 police officers who self-identify as having a minority status (i.e., Indigenous, women, and/or people of colour).
The Canadian Credible Leadership (CCL) Cohort, funded by the Motorola Solutions Foundation, is a virtual program led by a subject matter expert that blends online self-paced learning with live facilitated workshops to provide a unique learning experience for users. Participants will gain skills in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, problem solving, driving organizational change, and coaching.
The nine-week program will include more than 80 training hours and consist of mainly virtual classroom learning with an optional in-person component. The sessions will consist of facilitated workshops, guest lecturers, group activities, and personal reflection.
“Based on the strong interest and positive feedback from our existing leadership cohort, we’re confident this new program will help participants grow as leaders and advance their careers,” says Sonia Poulin, President, CPKN. “By providing tools and resources that support wellbeing, mental health, and burnout prevention, we’re helping police and public safety professionals build the resilience they need to lead effectively and better serve their communities.”
CPKN created the CCL Cohort in response to a survey that found that fewer than 10 per cent of Canadian sworn police officers receive leadership training each year in addition to the need for learning that supports wellbeing, mental health, and burnout prevention. This is a crucial resource for underrepresented officers who, on top of navigating a stressful and stigmatized occupation, often face issues of diversity, such as tokenism, microaggressions, and unconscious bias.
The CCL Cohort program is scheduled to take place January 7 to March 4, 2027, and will be developed by experts in leadership, mindfulness and police training to ensure the program aligns with required competencies in professional development for public safety members. All participants will receive a certificate if they complete six of the nine workshops.
