NEW COURSE – Drug Stigma Awareness for Law Enforcement

CPKN is pleased to announce a new hosted course now available in the catalogue: Drug Stigma Awareness for Law Enforcement with content provided by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA).

Did you know that 1 in 5 Canadians will experience substance use disorder or dependence in their lifetime? That is three times more Canadians than are diagnosed with Diabetes. People with substance use disorder are highly stigmatized within the community and the stigma often prevents people from getting the treatment they need.

Drug Stigma Awareness for Law Enforcement offers sworn officers the opportunity to learn about substance use disorder and the impacts of stigma on those who suffer from this medical condition. In this training, you will gain knowledge in skills and approaches to reduce substance use stigma. The course, available at no cost to sworn police officers in Canada, is in partnership with the Government of Canada and is available in both English and French.

“The Government of Canada is committed to the health and safety of Canadians. The opioid crisis continues to significantly impact individuals, families and communities across Canada. The launch of this training module will help our frontline law enforcement officers better understand and help those suffering from substance use disorders.” – The Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
