CPKN Compass Award

The CPKN Compass Award recognizes an individual who truly embodies the values and spirit of CPKN. 

Chosen by our staff, this honour celebrates someone who demonstrates collaboration, integrity, and a deep commitment to advancing learning and knowledge-sharing across the policing community.

This award reflects not only what we do, but who we are.

Eligibility

This award is intended to recognize individuals who advance learning, and collaboration within the policing community, specifically within police professional development.

  • Nominations can be for a Team, Service, Group, or Individual who works within the CPKN Network 
  • Nominees must be external to CPKN
  • Nominee must have had meaningful engagement with CPKN in the past year (project involvement, collaboration, advocacy, etc.)

Criteria

Nominees must have demonstrated one or more of the following:

  • Embodiment of CPKN’s core values, such as collaboration, respect, service, and integrity
  • Commitment to knowledge-sharing and learning within the policing community
  • Authenticity and passion in their engagement with others
  • Dedication to advancing the Network’s broader purpose

    Sergeant Sean O'Brien, Toronto Police Service

    The inaugural presentation of the CPKN Compass Award was awarded at the 2025 Stanhope Conference, to Sergeant Sean O’Brien from Toronto Police Service.

    Since 2012, Sean has actively played a key role in shaping and strengthening the CPKN Network, serving on the National Advisory Committee and Innovation Subcommittee, hosting and participating in User Groups, and contributing to the Network Webinar Series.

    His dedication to innovation and continuous improvement whether through LMS suggestions, new ideas, or connecting CPKN with potential partners has made a lasting impact.

    As a connector and champion of the Network, Sean truly reflects CPKN’s mission and values.
