  1. What is the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN)?

    The Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN Inc.) is a not-for-profit organization that collaborates with Canadian police services and Subject Matter Experts to develop high quality, innovative, e-learning courses that support the training needs of the Canadian police community.

  3. Who is CPKN?

    CPKN is a strategic alliance between the National Research Council, the Justice Knowledge Network, and the Canadian police community that was formed to help further the establishment of an organization that would meet the computer-based training needs of the Canadian police community.

  5. How is CPKN governed?

    CPKN is governed by its Board of Governors and its Advisory Board.

    The Board of Governors is comprised of four members representing all of CPKN's partner organizations. The Board of Governors, on behalf of the corporation:

    • Develops the strategic priorities for CPKN
    • Manages Corporate Affairs and the Property of CPKN
    • Administers the Affairs of the Corporation
    • Authorizes Expenditures
    • Accepts and Authorizes Agreements and Contracts

    The Advisory Board's role includes:

    • Setting the priorities for the selection and development of e-learning products
    • Establishing collaboration and business models that ensure economic sustainability for CPKN and its partners
    • Establishing partnerships with appropriate organizations to further the goals of CPKN
    • Providing advice and direction as required to ensure CPKN is relevant to its intended audience
    • Acting as champions for the CPKN initiative

    CPKN officially launched its e-learning portal on October 25, 2004.

  15. Does CPKN provide certification for course completions?

    CPKN provides Course Completion Certificates for its courses. These Certificates may be printed and retained as proof of completion once the course and its evaluation/test (if applicable) is completed.

    Additionally, CPKN can provide a record of all course completions to a Training Coordinator or Human Resources Department, if required.

  17. How can I buy/register for a CPKN course?

    Complete registration instructions are available within the Course Catalogue.

    1. Click on "Registration" (in the red bar near top of screen)
    2. Click on the desired course title
    3. Follow the directions to register for the selected course.

  19. How do I access a CPKN course?

    Registration is required in order to access a CPKN course. Upon registration you will receive a username and password via email. After receiving a username and password, you can access the course by:

    1. Visit www.cpkn.ca
    2. Click "Client Login" (Police or Non-Police)
    3. Enter your "Username" and "Password" in the appropriate boxes
    4. Click "sign-in"
    5. Start the course, by clicking "Launch" to the right of the course title

  21. How can I provide feedback on a CPKN course?

    All CPKN clients have the opportunity to evaluate their learning experience upon completion of their course(s). Instructions are provided upon the completion of the course(s). However, if you would like to provide feedback at another time:

    1. Click Client Login (Police or Non-Police)
    2. Enter your "username" and "password" in the appropriate fields
    3. Click "Sign-in"
    4. Click "Take Survey" in the Feedback area (on lower right of screen)

  23. How does CPKN provide security?

    CPKN utilizes a Learning Management System (LMS) that authenticates users on the CPKN learning environment. The LMS also provides registration, tracking and additional security functionality.

    Learners have access to the course for a period of one year.
