Understanding the law pertaining to a search and seizure is imperative in conducting a lawful search and/or seizure without a warrant, maintaining the personal rights of the individual and avoiding the exclusion of seized evidence from trial.

The Search and Seizure: Warrantless Authorities course describes the fundamental knowledge required by police officers to lawfully conduct an effective search and/or seizure. Based upon the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, this course explains the knowledge required to conduct warrantless search and seizures without violating an individual's right of privacy.

This course will allow both junior and experienced front-line officers to gain an understanding of the lawful authorities that permit a warrantless search and/or seizure. While it provides an introduction to one area of search and seizure, many other authorities exist in the form of search warrants, authorizations and statutes. This specific course encompasses many of the most common circumstances faced by front-line officers.
