The Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) was incorporated as a Part II, not-for-profit corporation in June 2005 under the Canada Corporations Act. The CPKN Board of Directors was formed thereafter and the first official meeting of the Board was held in September 2005.

The Board of Directors is comprised of seven members representing CPKN's member organizations (Holland College, National Research Council and the Canadian police community), bringing with them expertise in the policing, law enforcement, education and government sectors.
The Board includes senior leaders from police services, training institutions and provincial governments. Directors are elected for a two-year renewable term by the membership at the Annual General Meeting generally held in September.
